The Monroe County Water Authority's sole purpose is to supply you with the top quality water you need at an affordable price. 

 

MCWA is one of the 80 largest water suppliers in the U.S.

 

  • The Shoremont and Corfu Water Treatment Plants have a combined water treatment capacity of 140.3 million gallons per day.
  • Our water quality consistently meets or exceeds all New York State Health Department and U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drinking water standards.


MCWA is a public benefit corporation organized in 1950 under the New York State Public Authorities Law. 

 

Organization

The Authority is organized into departments designed to keep clean water flowing to your home or business and provide the necessary customer support and services you need.


MCWA departments are organized to deliver quality water to our customers as efficiently and affordably as possible.

Production and Transmission Department

operates systems related to: 

  • water treatment
  • water quality
  • transmission
  • distribution 
  • storage 

 

Engineering Department

Henk DeSmidt and Sandi Hourihan continually review and update MCWA distribution maps.
Divided into five sections:

  • new business/system extensions
  • planning
  • support engineering
  • design engineering 
  • construction 
    •  
Engineering is responsible for: 
  • planning, analyzing and implementing system extension projects 
  • planning, design, and construction of major facility replacements 
  • capital improvement projects 
  • continuing improvements to water system standards 
  • technical assistance to other departments and to outside agencies


Facilities, Fleet Maintenance and Operations

Doug Mothersell, one of the Authority's skilled mechanics, repairs MCWA vehicles when needed.

  • warehouse division - purchase, storage and distribution of materials 
  • buildings and grounds division - maintenance, trucking and internal construction projects 
  • fleet division - purchase and maintenance of vehicles and mobile equipment
  • operations division - responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of:

    • Water main installation Projectwater mains
    • hydrants
    • valves 
    • water services
    • leak detection
    • dispatch

  • The department maintains more than 50 properties (tank sites, booster pump stations, offices) and more than 100 vehicles.
