MCWA's Shoremont Water Treatment Plant can produce up to 140 million gallons a day.

48" Transmission Main - Atlantic Ave. to Plank Rd.

Overview

As part of the Monroe County Water Authority’s (MCWA) Eastside Water Supply Project (ESWSP) construction will be starting on a 48" diameter transmission main in the north Penfield area.

The 48” transmission main being constructed in the Atlantic Avenue to Plank Road area will convey drinking water from the new water treatment plant to the exising transmission and distribution system.  The water main will run north, from an existing transmission main located on Atlantic Avenue to Plank Road.  The main will run cross-country on permanent easements and highway right-of-way.

During the first phase of work, surveyors will work along the pipeline route to mark out easements (work) limits.  The second phase of work includes the actual water main installation.  The mains will be installed parallel to each other and approximately 10 feet apart.  Additional appurtenances such as valves and air release facilities are also installed at this time.  After installation, during the third phase of work, the mains are pressure tested to check for leaks.  The mains are then flushed and tested by the Health Department before they are ready to be put into service.  The final phase of work is final restoration in which disturbed areas are restored to their preconstruction conditions.  Temporary asphalt is removed and replaced with permanent asphalt and lawn and field areas are graded and seeded.  The contractor is responsible for getting all seeded areas to grow properly.

Schedule

The schedule depends on a number of factors, but we anticipate construction beginning in early February and lasting through the end of August 2013.  Restoration should be complete by mid September of 2013.
