You could survive about a month without food, but you could only survive 5 or 6 days without water.

2013 Cathodic Protection Program
Overview

The Water Authority will be doing maintenance work on its water transmission main between NYS Route 31 and NYS Route 96 in the Town of Perinton.

The project consists of installing a new cathodic protection system for the steel transmission main to prevent corrosion of the water main.  The project generally consists of four phases.

Initital testing is done to confirm that the transmission main is electrically isolated from other underground facilities such as gas mains.  Problems are corrected if discovered.

The installation of the cathodic protection system includes burying anode bags consisting of a magnesium bar along the transmission main.  The anodes are placed into holes and connected to each other and to the water main and test stations with a buried wire.  Once the anode is connected to the water main, it will electrically sacrifice itself (corrode) to protect the steel main.

Testing is performed at the installed test stations to assure the system is working properly.

Disturbed areas are restored to their preconstruction conditions.  The Authority's contractor will be required to properly grade and seed all lawn and field areas and complete all pavement restoration.

Since the transmission main is located on easements, this project should create little inconvenience to residents and traffic.

Schedule

The schedule depends on a number of factors, but we anticipate work starting in mid-October and being completed by the end of the year.  Final lawn and field restoration will be completed in the spring of 2014.
